Library Information

The library is the heart of any society. For mankind, the age of exploration is important. A university is a place of learning and wisdom. Every university's library is essential. Open University needs an updated library for students as well as authentic and current books for material preparation.The Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Open University Vivekanand Library is a diverse collection of materials that reflect the university's and its member institutions' intellectual wealth. The Vivekananda Library was established in 1998. Vivekananda Library has books on history, linguistics, sociology, political science, public administration, computer science, economics, English-Gujarati-Sanskrit literature, research techniques, library science, commerce and management, education and other. There are around 73,000 books in our library, as well as A collection of Ph.D. theses, dissertations, project reports, bound volumes, and CDROMs is also available in the main building, 6 regional centres and 161 study centres have a departmental library. This library is a valuable resource for teachers and researchers studying for competitive exams. The Vivekananda Library is open to students for reading and reference only. The library membership is given to students, research scholars, faculty of BAOU University, and other students. Library at the Headquarters, followed by libraries located at Regional Centres (RCL) and Study Centres (SCL) libraries. The Central Library caters to the needs of academic administration, supportive staff, and students at BAOU University.

Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC)

The Viveknand Library has been using SOUL 3.0, an integrated library management software. The user can search the Library Online Catalogue by author, title, subject, and key word by OPAC. OPAC provides access to all items in the University Library collection. This allows students to use the OPAC extensively and frequently to check and verify the availability of titles online. Filtering parameters such as keyword search, title search and so on can be used to find available titles and collections. It gives learners and researchers near-real-time access to critical information such as item status, and location.

E-Resources

With J-GATE and JSTOR memberships, we provide free full-text access to over 180000+ e-books and 4000+ international journals. Students and staff can use the library's services to access all of the world's main and leading e-databases and online gateways (both on and off campus with login id), as well as Indian gateways like e-sodhsindhu and Sodhganga. we also subscribe CMIE databases, IBM® SPSS® Amos

Digital Library (IR)

The Viveknand Library has created an institutional repository (IR) based on D-space 7.6 software. The repository houses institutional publications created by academics and students, which library users can access from anytime and anywhere. To ensure smooth operation and access to library resources, the library has invested in cutting-edge ICT infrastructure and technology integration to provide users with a highly efficient and multifunctional searching and browsing experience.

Membership with Other Organisations

The library has joined the "Sugamya Pustakalaya" , a service that allows visually impaired people to borrow books. Sugamya Pustakalaya offers over 7,000+ audio books in 17 languages. Also, DELNET members who provide ILL services provide members with access to almost 90,000 full-text E-Books and E-Journal articles via the DELNET Discovery Portal. A library facilitated with a Kibo XS device provides visually impaired people used to scan hardcopy printed and handwritten documents to listen, translate, digitise, and audio’tize content.

Pustak Parab

The library organises the "Pustak Parab" programme to encourage people to engage in reading. Participants have the opportunity to exchange their current books for new ones, fostering a cost-free initiative. This programme aims to promote literacy and make books more accessible to individuals.

Public reading Room

Vivekannad Library has established public reading rooms exclusively for reading purposes. These dedicated spaces are accessible to students and individuals who opt for library membership at a nominal fee.

Monday to Saturday 10.40 am to 6.10 pm
